Europe’s “top” sparkling wine

Endless hairpin bends take us high into the mountains, to an altitude of 1200 meters. And what better motivation to go up here than to visit a sparkling wine producer?

The owner Sepp is happy to guide us through his small business and tell us about his fine sparkling wine. Although he is a quiet man, he answers our questions with honesty, sincerity and a dryness that reflects the wines he has been producing for so many years.

When we have finished our tour of his wine cellar, Sepp seats us in the tasting room and with the majestic gestures of an expert, uncorks one bottle after another for use. We are intrigued by the reasons that led him to dedicate his life to sparkling wine, even though he does not own a single vineyard. He tells us that in the beginning his dream was to open a distillery, but there was someone who made him change his mind straight asway: his wife, who doesn’t like grappa! And buying a vineyard? The wallet was simply too small…

"To make sparkling wine you have to be like an artist: you need the creativity and imagination to understand what it will taste like in ten years’ time"

We can’t convince Sepp to reveal the secret recipe for his sparkling wine, but he does leave us with this pearl of wisdom:

A tasting after the other, the evening flows lightly, with Sepp telling us about his many lives and recommending other interesting places to visit in the area. There is still much to discover to create the perfect laifain experience for our guests.
