Sarentino: quaintness and tradition

If there is one thing that still distinguishes the people of the Sarentino valley today, it is their loyalty to local traditions. They are quick-witted and proud, but also exceptionally hospitable.

Today we have the pleasure of visiting the village of Sarentino in the company of its inhabitants, Maria. She will take us to a small church that is usually closed to the public and to which only she has the key. The frescoes inside are captivatingly beautiful, telling the story of a very special saint. On leaving the church we’ll walk through the village of Sarentino to an old farmstead that has been converted into an ethnographic museum. The old smoke-blackened kitchen with bread oven, and the renovated parlours and bedrooms preserve 700 years of farming culture and life.

Later on, they’ll be the chance to taste the specialties of the Sarentino cuisine, prepared and served by the local farm women and the best way to end this enchanting journey into the culture and lifestyle of the valley.
